Happy summer from The Jake Leg Jug Band, from myself and the various shows that I host – Hit Parade Heroes, The Lonnie Donegan Story as well as everyone in the Skiffle Group.

We had a magnificent July, and it must be said that this years Birmingham Jazz and Blues Festival went brilliantly for all bands!!!! HUGE thanks to Big Bear Music that made the festival happen with £0 investment from Birmingham City Council – what an achievement for Jim Simpson and the team! Our thanks to them all

This month is the annual pilgrimage to Bude Jazz Festival as well as The Lonnie Donegan Story appearing at The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in Colne, Lancashire (The Biggest UK RnB Festival)

Then on Friday 24th May I am performing this special event – The Lonnie Donegan Story at New Oscott Village, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, B23 5LD – I will be joined by New Orleans drumming legend, Baby Jools… West End musical bassist, Jim Swinnerton… and my pal from the Jake Leg Jug Band, Liam Ward will join us on Harmonica.

Doors open at 7pm – tickets are £9 and the venue has a full bar and dance floor… If you are near or in Sutton Coldfield then please come along and join us, you’ll have a great night hearing about the man who launched British pop music and brought American folk and blues music to our shores in the mid 50s.

I know what you’re thinking… Why didn’t I just send The Jake Leg Jug Band’s April update on Monday 1st April?… Well, I just knew that you wouldn’t believe me!

Having completed the first quarter of 2024 so quickly, we now move into the next and with it comes brighter nights and hopefully finer weather that will see some lovely outdoor performances as well as some exciting new ventures for the band.

Our gospel album “Some Glad Morning” (album number 9) will be released within the next month and it will also be available at all of our shows, especially the dedicated gospel shows that we are doing throughout the year in a number of UK churches.
