Warren James – NEW ALBUM RELEASE

Hello everyone,

Following a very busy month since last months update, I can tell you that I’ve done 30 concerts in 30 days.

Firstly, my 50s rock ‘n’ roll band, The Hit Parade Heroes, launched The Birmingham Jazz and Blues Festival and performed a further 3 dates in the city with some lovely attendances and enthusiastic jive dancing from the crowds. We briefly made an appearance on the local independent Birmingham news! Not quite the South Bank Show, but, FAME AT LAST 🤣😁

Then, between my rock ‘n’ roll band appearances, and the Jake Leg Jug Band concerts at the Brummies finest festival, I just casually popped up to Ayr in Scotland to perform two more concerts with my jazz and blues trio, Warren James and his Lonesome Travellers, which has really taken off this year due to great reviews.

Our host was Katy Clachan, who runs the annual North West Castle Jazz Festival in Stranraer. Katy brought us our own bespoke audience of 100 people to The Balgarth Pines in Ayr, and what a wonderful concert it was.

Our friend from Ayrshire, Stuart McLean, who ran Ayr Jazz Club for many years, brought his recording device with him and captured what I believe is a fantastic evening. The audience applause is just brilliant.

These two CD discs capture great audience responses to our performances of vintage jazz and blues from 1920s and 1930s America, and every song tells us a story of the times.

I am very proud to be joined by Jim Swinnerton on double-bass, who is without question a power-house of a player and who I think everyone on the jazz and blues scene knows and loves.

Also performing with us on that great night was Danny Blyth on clarinet, bass-clarinet, guitar, blues harp, and mandolin.

Fans will normally find Danny working with Spats Langham’s Hot Fingers, one of the most respected bands and banjo / guitar players out there today, and whose musical abilities leave people spell-bound.

So, let’s just say that I’m in very good company with two of the most talented players you could ask for.

The number of jazz clubs who have now booked my Lonesome Travellers is absolutely wonderful, and our popularity is growing all around the UK simply because we are a vocal led band and that alone sets us apart from many of the others but we also still have some youth within us, we choose the right songs that you will know and more importantly, we choose the right songs that you may not know. Surrounding the songs are short stories about the songs and the unique and wonderful characters that wrote them. Audiences everywhere have told me that it is these wonderful short tales that set us apart from the rest… Something I learned from my many years on tour with entertainer Roger Dean. Also, we feature guest players, which makes every gig special for us.

Reviews of our performances have been glowing, and so I really do hope that more jazz clubs and arts centres who have not yet had us will finally be encouraged to drop me a line and host us as their audiences really do deserve to see and hear what we have to offer.

This month, I will be out performing with The Lonnie Donegan Story, The Lonesome Travellers, The Jake Leg Jug Band, Richard Bennett’s New Orleans All Stars, Ian Batemans IT’S TRAD DAD, Alex Clarke and preparing for concerts with Paula Jackman’s band… and Bude Jazz Festival is just around the corner.
